There’s a new Technology Innvation Management Review out, with Open Source Business as the theme. The guest editor for this issue is possibly known to you – Leslie Hawthorn, who was the coordinator for the first years of the Google Summer of Code project.

The Technology Innovation Management Review (used to be the Open Source Business Resource) has its second issue out since the rename. There’s still plenty of open-source focus in there.

Have you noticed how what was nerd culture 20 years ago has become mainstream? In the same way, open source is becoming a given assumption, rather than a niche to follow on its own.

The Open Source Business Resource, linked here before, has become the Technology Innovation Management Review, or TIM Review. Conveniently, the editor is named Chris, not Tim, so nobody will get confused. It’ll still cover open-source software, but it’ll also

“share the spotlight with topics such as managing innovation, technology entrepreneurship, and economic development”

The first relaunched issue will be out in October.

August OSBR: open source business

The August issue of the Open Source Business Resource magazine is out, talking about starting open-source based businesses. It also announces a name change, to “Technology Innovation Management Review”. The reason, according to the editor, is that the original purpose of the magazine was to explain how you could make money creating or using open source software. People seem to have figured that out now…

The question now is how do you make your (probably open source using) business grow. I totally believe that now based on the number of businesses that have sprung up based around open source software; it used to be much harder to find a commercial backer for a project that let you see the source code. Now, it’s practically commonplace. (examples added off the top of my head.)
