Lazy Reading for 2012/03/11

This is the week where I remember to actually write introductory text.  I also didn’t think I was going to have anything good this week, but The Internet came through for me at the last minute.  Thanks, Internet!  It’s also the week where I mis-schedule this post for Friday, temporarily.

Your unrelated link of the week: Welcome to Muppet Labs, where the future is being made today!

    In

DragonFly BSD 3.0.1 desktop test — first steps
    http://stevenrosenberg.net/blog/bsd/dragonflybsd/2012_0305_dragonflybsd_first_steps_01

there is the following sentence :

(Later, as will be explained in my upcoming full DragonFly BSD 3.0.1 review,
I had no success with KDE, GNOME and KDEnlive but was able to run
    the Xfce4 desktop environment.)

Really , KDE is NOT available as a package in

    http://mirror-master.dragonflybsd.org/packages/x86_64/DragonFly-3.0.1/pkgsrc-2011Q4/All/

and GNOME installed from the above link is NOT working : It is crashing during start of

    “startx” .

    Thank you very much .

oops, typo, should be “HTTPS Everywhere” not HTTP :)

  3. Mehmet – I’m not surprised if there’s package issues – KDE and Gnome have hundreds of dependencies, so all it takes is one package… I don’t know why Gnome is having issues, but that might be a local video problem of some sort.
