I think it’s the 1.12.0 release notes that are wrong:

# ls -la /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 9 Aug 6 2007 /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0 -> libc_r.so

This is on a 1.12.1 system.
